Incentives! Pinterest Project #3

I saw this really great Idea on Pinterest the other day creating scratch off cards and of course I ran to Michael's to buy the supplies needed :)
I already had my class incentives typed up so all I need was to create the scratch off cards. I plan to use the clip chart management system this year (BB pics to come) and decided that the students who's clip make it to the top deserve a tangible reward. They will get a "Scratch Your Luck - S.T.A.R buck" and will get a random reward.  I will also use the incentives to reward citizenship and team work.

Here are my S.T.A.R bucks (incentives)   - What do you think?

Incentives

File can be downloaded and adapted off my class website under the "Teachers" tab - http://readersareleaders.shutterfly.com

To make the scratch off cards I used liquid hand soap (which worked out well but you should really use liquid dish soap but I ony had the foam kind) , Metallic Silver Acrylic Paint ($1 at Michaels. I bought 2 but 1 was enough) , and a thin paint brush. You also need clear contact paper ($4 for a roll at Michael's)

You need to mix 2 parts paint to one part liquid soap. I used 2tbs paint : 1tbs soap. Mix well.
Cut up your coupons/incentives and glue onto construction paper (not a must but looks cute, and is sturdier)
Cut up and tape the clear contact paper to the area you want to be scratched off. Paint over the contact paper area. I found that if I let the mixture stand a little (20 min.) it works better. (a second coat may be needed).

I'm not going to lie.... this did take a couple of hours to accomplish (I made 50 cards) but it was very simple and easy even for a non-crafter like my self :) and they turned out great!

I <3 them! (DH wanted to scratch a few off himself) and I know the kids wil love them!

Here is the final product :)

  5. Holly, you can take your time with them and do them over several days one step at a time. I think they're worth it!

  6. I'm short on money AND time, so I am always looking for the most efficient methods I can find. Could you just run them through the school's laminator? Then it wouldn't be necessary to buy the contact paper. If it works, and if the kids will "turn in" their coupons once they've used them, I could reuse them by painting them again!

  7. I tried to make these exactly as you described. I had the dish soap, the acrylic paint in silver and thin brushes. NOTHING I did would make the paint dry on top of the contact paper! Any suggestions? I tried more paint and less soap, nope! Different soap, nope! Different paint, nope! The solution just puddles in the middle of the card not what I tried!
