Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration!!!
I decided to dedicate an entire post to my MLK lesson :)
Here is what we did last Friday....
{We did not get to finish it all because of our Pep Rally}
We created a KWHL foldable for Dr. King & the Civil Rights Movement!

We used our Scholastic Action Magazine that arrived earlier this month
and was centered around Dr. King!
We read through the fact sheet, Reader's Theater, and the back cover {a picture tells a story section}
We used the online resources Scholastic provides with the Magazine and watched 2 short video clips.
One, a short clip from Dr. King's Speech, and the second "Struggle for Equality."
We filled out our Foldables & the kids did an amazing job on their answers!!!
{my kids are VERY WELL trained on Foldables and make them in under 5 min.}
One of the most important things that we do when create foldables is THINK-PAIR-SHARE!!!
The kids really love to share the answers on their flaps and unfortunately I don't have the time to hear them all share, so.... we dedicate 5 minutes to
THINK-PAIR-SHARE!!!
Here are mini videos on how we do it :)
I LOVE my 6th graders!!!
{I'm also very biased since I had them as my 3rd graders :) }
