And now for a fun little freebie :)

Anticipation Guide

Here is a great tool to help students activate prior knowledge & schema prior to a lesson about the topic/subject and using the same form to wrap up your lesson to gauge students' understanding.
Anticipation Guides help set a purpose for the lesson or reading and get students' thinking and activation prior knowledge. It can lead to a great discussion and is perfect to wrap up the lesson.

Instruct students to read each statement (provided by the teacher) and place a check √ or X in the left box if they agree or disagree with the statement before you begin the lesson or reading selection.
Revisit the statements at the end of the lesson and for the students to check them off again and see if they still agree/disagree with those statements. Conduct a short discussion about the results and the students new profound learning & understandings.

While I hand out one to each student to complete, I also like to have one up on my SMART board or projected on the white board with a doc. camera and collect the class data on one sheet by tallying up how many students agree or disagree with each statement
After students complete their own sheet, I read out loud each statement and students give me the thumb up if they agree or disagree based on the answers they marked on their sheet.
I tally up their answers on the board and we have a short discussion about the results.
We follow the same procedure at the end of the lesson/reading selection/unit of study and revisit our original choices. We have a follow up discussion on how the new information that we learned informed our thinking and changed our minds/ideas.

This is a great alternative assessment tool!!!

This strategy can be used in ALL SUBJECTS & ALL GRADES!!!

Click on the image to download this freebie :)

You can also ask students to predict the topic & main idea based on the clues in the statements
and you knock out more benchmarks along the way :)

I'd love to hear how you would use this & incorporate it into your lesson!
{if you download it please take a moment to rate the item for others, I would really appreciate it}

Happy Friday!!!!!

Hope you have a great weekend!!!!!
