yep... it's just another manic Monday, oh how I wish it was still Sunday!!!
Our kids are working hard to practice for our state exam these days and not much fun it taking place.
We're just practicing & reviewing, counting the days till the nightmare is over.
Our test is on the week of 4/16 and all of us are ready to put it behind us!
I did want to share one of my favorite strategies for character study.
This is part of our interactive student notebook.
This is part of our interactive student notebook.
This can easily be applied to Social Studies as well.
This is a point of view & sensory figure
Students illustrate the character based on the physical traits mentioned in the text
and create thought bubbles to describe the character's point of view and senses throughout the text.

This last one was created by one of my ELL girls.
She moved here this year from Eastern Europe and did know a word of English!!!
It is a great tool to help student process characterization.
Their figures came out awesome!

ReplyDeleteThanks Melodee!! With no money for art you have to find away to integrate it for the upper grades too. And this is as artsy as I get :) I don't like a mess. So color pencils is my max!

Adventures of a 6th Grade Teacher
Thanks Katie!!! I hope you'll like it! Our test was changed this year too. I hope the kids do well....
DeleteOh my goodness, Mor - I LOVE the character sketches. Your kids did such a great job! One year (many years ago) I did life-size characters like these (but in groups). We used the characters from The Hobbit (it was our oral read that year), and they looked FANTASTIC!!! Don't have the room in the classroom to do these anymore, so your characters are perfect!!!
